Coco de Mer Lodoicea maldivica, the largest seed in the plant kingdom,is produced by a palm that is endemic to two islands, Praslin and Curieuse, in the Seychelle Islands. During the Middle Ages, a theory later referred to as the Doctrine of Signatures promoted the belief that plants were placed on Earth for the good of mankind.
